It goes SO much smoother. All of my kids were potty trained with no nighttime accidents or anything by their 3rd birthdays and I never had to deal with cleaning up pee/poo all over the place due to premature underwear-wearing LOL The longest I've nursed is 19.5 months and I allowed child-led weaning with all of mine. I am thinking I'm not gonna be so lucky with Zoe though - she's 16.5 months and she's not anywhere close to slacking off - at all LOL!

That being said, if I were to actively wean, I would probably do it during the day first then work on nights... would seem to be much easier that way. I remember even when Briyana (my oldest and the longest nursed to date) led the weaning process, the last couple of months, she ONLY nursed to go to sleep at night... then gradually she started going to sleep without nursing :)

Either way, GOOD LUCK and I hope you guys had fun at the beach!!!

Aw. I was able to wean my baby, who'll be three on Wednesday, where he is only (still) sucking a few minutes before bedtime and then I rub his back, but I have been unable to get him off of me (it's like that now - not fun like it used to be) before he goes to bed every night. Every night before he goes to bed, he wants to "go night, night," which in English means he wants to suck/nurse. I am so sure there is no milk left inside of me, but he has the nerve :) to request one side over the other. I feel for you. I did the daytime weaning, but w/that he also stopped napping during the day. Even so, you should try it.

This will be our first Christmas as a family of five. That was somewhat effective for me too, but overall, you're in my prayers, Love, as is Tar, b/c it just has to run its course.
