That's right you read the title correctly. Here we are 42 year post the court trial of Loving v. Virginia (1967) and an interracial couple is denied the right to get married. Whoa!
This quote from Justice Bardwell, the judge who allegedly refused to issue the marrriage license, leaves me speechless:
"I'm not a racist. I just don't believe in mixing the races that way," Bardwell told the Associated Press on Thursday. "I have piles and piles of black friends. They come to my home, I marry them, they use my bathroom. I treat them just like everyone else."
That man is a saint. *rolls eyes* He ACTUALLY has piles and piles of black friends AND he lets them use his bathroom. O.M. freakin' Goodness! It's so ridiculous you almost have to laugh.
My heart just fell when I read this:
Bardwell said he has discussed the topic with blacks and whites, along with witnessing some interracial marriages. He came to the conclusion that most of black society does not readily accept offspring of such relationships, and neither does white society, he said.
This argument against interracial couples having children is so old and worn out. I'm not going to debate this absurd statement with a response. But what I will say is that the list of successful, upstanding, well accomplished biracial children is far reaching. Can someone say President Barack Obama? You can even walk around in everyday life and see biracial people and they seem no less happy or no more confused and disorientated than the rest of society. Justice of the peace, Bardwell needs to really get a clue and join the rest of us in 2009.

I agree-it's absurd beyond words. BUT in the light of the group of white supremacists that have settled in Bozeman, Montana, it really becomes clear, that even though we have changed the laws we haven't changed the hearts and minds of the people.
He is a hateful, hateful man, using his authority as a judge to impose his ignorant ideas on normal people! And it is scary to know that there are people who feel the same way! What day and age are we living in?! Pathetic, heart breaking, and just plain wrong!
My husband showed me this article yesterday and my mouth hit the floor. I just loved when he proved he WASN'T a racist when he stated,"I even let them use my bathroom" What an idiot!!! Its unfortunate but hate has a way of surviving through the ages.
I'm just shocked that this is the first we've heard of this delightful humanitarian because according to the article, this is not the first interracial couple that he has denied to marry. Makes me wonder!
"I even let them use my bathroom" ?? Now that's classic! Well that right there just proves he's a good ole' boy now doesn't it LOL!! Looks like he wore the right robe, without the hood that day. It seems they give the title of judge to any low life in this town. He should be disbarred, it's 2009 for pete's sake!! I think it's actually sad that such a thing still exists in our world today, but it does. You would think in today's society everyone accepts everyone, but they really don't do they?? People just need to come to grips with the fact that people differ from one another, we are all human after all & that's what makes this world a good one. Ooh well, it just goes to show even with a biracial president we still have a long way to go to get to the place where people are judged by their actions & NOT their color.
I let them use my bathroom. Who says that?! I'm just glad it wasn't up to him or anyone like him to decide if it would be acceptable for my husband and I to get married. As for biracial children, I don't want anyone like that anywhere near any of my children. I just recently, at the advice of a friend, started thinking about how I'm going to handle it when it happens... and she informs me that it, unfortunately, will happen.
When I read the article, I wanted to email you, but thought you would see it eventually.
I hate being the bearer of bad news.
He may be a few things, but honest he is about his own opinions, regardless of the depth of ignorance that triggers it.
I always try to look at the bright spot.
I live in Louisiana and I'm not surprised whatsoever. It's crazy around here. Seems LA is the new Mississippi. My family (interracial - I'm white, hubby is black, and we have five children) is from south Mississippi and we've never seen it (racism/prejudice) as blatantly as we have in Louisiana. Sick.
