Eco-Friendly Tip #19: Green School Supplies

This "go green" suggestion is a little late in some areas of the country where school has already began. However, whether you already have your children's school supplies or are looking to purchase them, these tips may possibly help.
Save On Supplies:
Did you notice this year's school supply list has many of the items from last year? Pencils, pens, erasers, scissors, glue, paint sets, and the list goes on and on. There are certain items you can almost bet on that will be listed for several years depending on the grade level of your child. Why repurchase these items. This year I purposed to buy as little as I could in the "regular" item catagory and save that money for unusual things like headsets (Yes, I actually had to get one for Lil Man). You'd be surprise how many pencils, crayons, markers, folders, binders I discovered in the closet that would have stayed unused if I hadn't purposed to NOT buy unnecessarily. Check out your kids closets, old backpacks, desks and beneath beds.

Great point! You also inspired me to think about buying some stuff in bulk and storing it so that we always have supplies on hand. Roscoe's not in school yet but I'm a teacher so I may just use this tip at work. Thanks for joining Thrifty Green Thursday this week!
That's a good idea--we have so many crayons hanging around our house.
Eco-friendly school supplies are really a good idea.
You are so right. Sometimes I am amazed at the things I can find. I was so happy to find a box on white-out last week. I needed it in a pinch.
sounds great, good luck
