The Green Links & Articles
Do you know the difference between reusing and recycling? I'll be honest to say I had it twisted. I snagged this awesome article called Why Reuse Beats Recycle from my kindred sister, G Johnson, at Black and Into Green . Good info y'all! Good stuff. Oh, oh and how about my girl taught her first green oriented community center class on Tuesday. This sister's got is going on!
According toThe Christian Post the 2008 Environmental Performance Index (EPI) ranked 149 countries based on 25 indicators tracked across six established policy categories: environmental health, air pollution, water resources, biodiversity and habitat, productive natural resources, and climate change. Guess where the US ranked? Did you guess numero uno? Well you're wrong! Our dear country came in 39th place out of the 149 countries ranked. Not too good considering two 3rd World countries (Costa Rica & Columbia) ranked above the US. Says a lot for the environmental policies that are in place. Big talk; little game! Done. Click on the Christian Post link to read the article in detail.
Another one of my sister-girls,Believer 1964 emailed me this article titled Tokyoites Least Eco-minded of Rich City Dwellers: Poll . These folks crack me! According to this article most Tokyoites are frightened by global warming yet they have no intention of giving up their conveniences to do anything about it. Go figure, doesn't that make up the majority of us. We like to complain and moan about gas prices being too high, yet we don't make any effort to be less dependent on our personal transportation.

Reusing is much harder than recycling, because I have to make the effort, rather than expect the recycling center to do the work. We're trying to change some of our habits and do better at reusing. For example, shred our old/junk mail for bedding in the chicken coop, then put the soiled bedding the compost bin later. Takes effort, but I always appreciate that full compost bin every spring!
I'm an avid Recycler! I also have become even stricter about what does and doesn't go in the trash. Everyone should familiarize themselves with those cute magnetic flyers we get about recycling. Ours is on the side of the fridge and if I don’t know, I check!
