Top 12 Fruits and Veggies Found to Contain Pesticides
Often times buying organic can be so expensive it deters would-be consumers from purchasing organic products. Although, the prices of organic products are continually falling, they still remain higher than products from our regular markets. In our current economy with prices already out of control, the last thing parents would want to do is put an added financial burden on their family by switching to higher priced organic groceries. The following list contains the produce with the highest levels of pesticide contamination.
1) Nectarines – 97.3% of nectarines sampled were found to contain pesticides.
2) Celery – 94.5% of celery sampled were found to contain pesticides.
3) Pears – 94.4% of pears sampled were found to contain pesticides.
4) Peaches – 93.7% of peaches sampled were found to contain pesticides.
5) Apples – 91% of apples sampled were found to contain pesticides.
6) Cherries – 91% of cherries sampled were found to contain pesticides.
7) Strawberries – 90% of strawberries sampled were found to contain pesticides.

The following list is based on information and studies by the United States Department of Agriculture(USDA) , Consumer Reports , and the Environmental Working Group .

So in other words, just about every fruit and veggie we eat has pesticides..yuck! I know it's expensive but so worth it and the stuff usually tastes so much better too.
I think more and more people are going to start thinking about growing their own when they can, grocery shopping is getting to be seriously expensive these days.
@ Tania: I know, doesn't it seem like just about every fruit & veggie is on the list. At least the most popular ones. It is sickening! I would love for our family to be self sufficient and be able to grow our own veggies and fruits. How cool would that be!
This motivates me to get out in the garden and do some more planting, especially fruit trees!
Yeah, Ana I see most of our favorites here too! :( This makes me wish the good old days of when I lived in Nebraska and Iowa. Nearly all of my family/friends had gardens of some type so that's when I feel like I had real "organic" produce consistently.
I personally don't trust the "organic" label in grocery stores...call me a skeptical and Midwest-farm girl if you like. The last "organic" produce I had was from my neighbor who lives in the suburbs here in Chicago and actually does have her own garden. She was sweet enough to give my husband and I some fresh tomatoes from it. The tomato tasted so good! I keep telling my husband we should move..I'm going to show him this list and see what he says then.
