Get Your Family to Think Outside the Box

We've all read about it in articles, seen it on the news, heard it discussed in various circles we move in. Kids. Watch. Too. Much. TV. But it's not just kids watching too much t.v it's everyone. Every year in April a week has been set aside for National T.V Turn Off week. This year from April 21 - April 27 folks are turning off the tube again. Not only is this a great way for families to reconnect but just imagine the energy being saved. Talk about killing two birds with one stone!

We did this last year and had a blast! This year we plan to do it again and I hope that some of you will be encouraged to join in.

Wow, that's a long time without T.V-LOL
I actually had a teacher in college who didn't allow her children (ages 6 & 8) & her older kids who are out of the house to watch T.V. They only had 1 T.V in the house which was in the parents bedroom & they would just watch the news.
The kids could watch movies (tapes) & some educational programs, but that was about it.
I admired her a lot for that. I wondered if I could do that?
I think too many parents, especially in my family put their children in front of the T.V just to occupy their time, while the parents are off on the phone or doing their own things. I think family time is very importnant.

Family time is very important and I agree with limiting TV time (which we do. Usually a couple hours after dinner and our favorite programs are usually on the History or Discovery channel), however, when you're trying to cook dinner and you have a two year old pulling at your leg when you're near a hot stove or oven and you're worried he'll put his hand somewhere he shouldn't, TV is like a savior! LOL!

We have done the no TV for a week thing as well, but I can only do it when J is home to help me with Nico. Otherwise, I'd never get anything done. But I have to admit, it's hard to miss my night of America's next top model. Thank goodness for DVRs! LOL

Thanks for the heads up. I think I will suck it up and do the same. See you next week, Tyra!

I couldn't agree more about TV. We are married and don't have any children yet, however, neither of us are TV watchers. The last time I really watched TV was back in 2005 before I met my husband. It's so true in my opinion that children watch entirely too much TV. Of course, it didn't used to be this way. I think the "NO-TV" Week should be happening more than once a year...more like once a month.
