Eco-friendly tip #3: Mama Got a Brand New Bag

"I like the way you work it
No diggity, I try to bag it up, bag it up"
~ BlackStreet

I sure do plan to work my new green bag. No diggity, no doubt I'm going to bag it up, bag it up all our groceries in my green bag. Saturday, while in the Whole Food Market I came upon these stylish (okay, so they aren't douney & burke stylish) oh-so functional grocery bags and just had to get one. The inside of the bag is insulated and the outside is made with canvas. It is so easy to clean and very sturdy. I don't have the dimensions of the bag (I'm too lazy to go look) but I'd say it's about the size of an average beach bag. It holds a good amount of groceries and costed only $3.49. I'd say that's a fairly good price for a bag I'll have around for a while.

It made so much sense to buy this bag and forego plastic & paper. Just imagine how much plastic would be saved from the landfills and how many less trees would be cut if everyone had a bag of their own? Check with your local grocer to see if they offer them and start bagging it up, bagging it up yourself!

Saturday, if you recall was Earth Hour. I just have to share this cute little story about the hubster. When I spoke to him about it he hummed and hawed about how it was such a silly idea blah, blah, blah and he wanted to watch one of his shows. I had basically planned on leaving him out of it and banning him to the bedroom where he could watch t.v. As for the rest of the house I planned to keep lights and appliances off for an hour.

An hour before the event hubby went to Walmart and got back minutes before I was going to turn everything off. He handed me 3 green bags he bought from Walmart and said "You win."

I guess he had an epiphany of sorts. He said when he went into Walmart these bags were everywhere. Hubby never remembered seeing them before and was afraid if he didn't buy some the cashier might not check out his purchases since everyone seemed to be carrying them around. lol

Epiphany of sorts! Heheh. Your hub is a funny man. And great- now, you have more grocery bags!

A while ago our Costco was selling three large grocery bags, one of them insulated, for five bucks for the three. And these are big honking suckers that basically fit right in the large part of the shopping cart.

But for some reason, I've never seen them since, which is a shame.

You won! yeah you!

I have a million bags like that and I can't ever seem to remember to bring them with me even when I have them in my trunk. I'm getting better though but my brain is like a sieve.

Ha Ha at your hubby. That is funny. We just all have to get into the habit of using them.
