I've Got To Say The Hubster Surprises Me Sometimes

Ever since my decision to move toward a pale green, light crunchy lifestyle I've had my reservation about how the hubster would take the whole thing. It's not that I feared he would be against us being earth friendly. It's more that I expected him to roll his eyes and make a comment that I'm always on a mission for some cause. According to him, if I had my way we'd be a dreadlock family the size of the Duggar, living in the jungle, eating berries, singing kumbaya and dancing with animals. Nahhhh, I'm not that bad! lol

I guess I have a bit of an activist's heart. Maybe I missed my calling. Actually, I'd love to be like Angelina Jolie. I know, I'm probably one of the few that thinks this lady is alright. I love her passion for adopting children and her restless heart for people's suffering. She may not be in the saint category like Mother Teresa. But, I really don't think it's beyond the Lord to use the inconceivable for extraordinary good.

As I expected, when I approached the hubster about some of my ideas for greener living he gave me his "not-again" look. I didn't make anything of his look because eventually he'll climb on board with my ideas if I'm stealthy enough to incorporate them so he doesn't notice. Common ladies, ya'll know what I'm talking about. Sometimes, it's not worth it to go head to head with our spouses on things we want that we know they won't give us up front. We get our way by blindsiding them so the don't even realize they've fallen in the trap. To be a woman is to be ahead of the game. Ha!

It appears I'm the one who got blindsided this time. I've noticed the hubster has quietly been making his own changes. We've always had a stash of paper plates in the cupboard. We used them mainly for snacks to lessen how many dishes we have to wash. A few days ago I noticed three new plastic plates and cups on the counter. I asked him why he bought them. He said their light weight and easier to use for everyday casual eating & snacking than the sets we have in the cupboard. I've noticed the hubster has been faithful to use them instead to the paper plates. And get this, the plates & cups are made from 100% recycled plastic. I sure didn't see this one coming! *smiles to myself*

they CAN surprise, can't they? That's wonderful he turned the tables on you. hhah I hope it works out, the greener living. We are also looking into options for greener living in our home, ie. changing out light bulbs, not using paper/styrofoam cups or plates, etc. We already recycle like maniacs but want to be better about buying in bulk and making sure to always buy organic (even when it hurts to pay the price).

Good luck to you guys in your practise!

We just started doing the same thing! My husband was addicted to paper plates, and now he is making a concerted effort to use the plastic ones.

And, I like Angelina too!

I Like Angelina too, she's only human so I don't know why people are so down on her, she seems very genuine to me and her kids are all adorable!

I'm from the land of green living so we're really crunchy and granola around here. We recycle, mulch, shop co-ops, grow our own veggies, drive hybrids and all that good stuff.
I've just discovered "Charlie's Soap" and we use it for the laundry, cleaning and dishwashing. It works wonderfully! and enviromentally friendly of course. One little bag of that stuff washes 80 loads, one tiny scoop per load.

@ Rania: One can only try, right? Every little bit counts and that's awesome the changes you are making. Organic can be expensive when it comes from high end markets, but some genuine farmer co-ops have good buys.

@ Gina: Kindred spirit girlfriend, kindred spirit. Good for your hubby!

@ Tania: I heard about "charlie's soap"! I was reading another blog raving about it! Where can I get this to try. I am also thinking of Shaklee.com or Melaleuca.com. I used to buy from Mela and loved their products.

I have a friend that sells that Shaklee stuff. I've never bought it because I think she also wants me to try to sell it (more like a pyramid thing, I think?? not sure)
Anyway, she has been using all of their items for years and loves it.

And you're right about the organic. It can get VERY pricey. I mean, our favorite milk is already OVER $6 a gallon now. WTF??? Siiighhh... I just can't justify that, not with a new baby on the way. LOL

@ Rania: *sighs* organic can bust a bank in some ways, true. That's why I try to buy as much as I can from Amish & Quaker farms when I can. They have naturally grown products and they are half the price of other places.

I think you can buy Shaklee products without joining their MLM. I'm not really interested in the business sided, just the products. Supposedly, if you become a member then the products are discounted, but I think then you have to sell their products. I
