Eco-friendly tip #2: Hair, Hair and more Hair
Do you remember in last week's Eco-friendly tip I promised tips on natural hair care. I am so excited to share these hair tips and recipes because you can make them right out of your home! You'll be using some of the best products for your hair and some of the ingredients come right out of your pantry or refrigerator. How cool is that! So lets get started! Ooooops before I get started can I say shea butter, shea butter, SHEA BUTTER ! So good for your hair and body.
I came across this site calledMotowngirl.com . I absolutely LURVE this site. It is pack with wonderful ideas, information, instructions and recipes to naturally care for hair. Although, the site is geared toward hair for women of colour, I'm sure some of the tips and information can be used for any hair texture. The following recipes are just a few examples of what you can find on that site! Enjoy!
CONDITIONER
Rosemary Honey Conditioner:
1/2 cup honey
3 tsp warm olive oil
4 drops of rosemary oil
1 tsp guar gum
Place all the ingredients in a bowl and mix thoroughly. Apply small amounts at a time to slightly damp hair. Massage into hair until hair is completely coated. Cover with heated towel or shower cap. Leave on hair for 30 minutes and then remove towel or cap. Shampoo and rinse with cold water.
Honey/Olive Conditioner:
3 tsp of honey
1/4 cup of olive oil
Warm honey and then mix in oil. Apply to hair until hair is full coated. Cover with shower cap and leave for 30 minutes. Shampoo and rinse with cold water.
HAIR RINSES
Hair Clarifier:
2 cups of warm water
1/2 cup of lemon juice
Mix ingredients in bowl and pour onto hair. Massage and leave in for 10 minutes. Rinse out, condition and style.
Hair Sheen Rinse:

Mix ingredients. After shampooing hair apply mixture to hair. Leave in rinse and do not wash out. Dry hair as natural.
Check outFrom Nature With Love for a lot of the oils and natural ingredients to make these homemade recipes.

This sounds gooood. How sticky will it be? Have you tried it yet?
Sticky is my question too, given the ingredients. I found a natural recipe with bananas in it and did a little makeover sleepover for some neighborhood girls. It was a mess and they couldn't get the bananas out for a week!
I've tried the lemon juice one, but I agree with the others will that be sticky?
REALLLLLLLY? Wow, now that's COOL!
ROFL @ Amber! You would try the banana recipe on the neighborhood girls and not on your own just in case it didn't come out. Too funny!
These are my thoughts on the recipes. I don't think they are meant to be absolutes, but rather guides. The ingredients should be adjusted to create a mixture that is the right consistency for your hair. When I saw the amts for the oils and honey I was concerned that the end result would be too heavy and sticky for my liking as well. Therefore I added the ingredients sparingly and slowly until I came to a consistency I like. It worked very well with my hair and the results were wonderful.
These are the recipes that I tried and loved:
Scalp Energizer
Hair Clarifier
Protein Conditioner
Homemade Spritz
